About
Welcome to The Opal Ring

I've always loved to write. From the Young Authors program in first grade, to editing my friends' papers through school, to musing about different topics on social media, writing has always been an outlet for me, and didn't feel like work. That's probably because my parents were both editors. My mother wrote and edited for magazines and textbooks, and my father was the City Editor of the local newspaper for decades. My brother is even involved in editing. So if you need something proofread, you know where to go. :)

I'm Hayley, nice to meet you. As a mom of two young kids, I haven't had much time to sit down and write. Lately, the words have been almost bursting out of me, and I've felt very compelled to write.
There's a lot that we need to talk about!

My dad used to love to tell us the old adage "Don't upset someone who buys ink by the barrel."Since I was a child, the medium with which many read has become different (and the computers have gotten much smaller than the one in the photo of me at the local paper), but I believe people still want to read good writing and think deeply.
Dad guided countless journalists and had the famous phrase, "People want to read about people." I dedicate this blog to his memory and hope I can honor him by eloquently exploring topics about life, and especially the people I've met along the way.

Hope you enjoy reading this blog and please check back often!
